I am relatively new to prop firms and want to take my time trying different ones to understand the nuances firsthand. Right now, I am testing the waters with a few firms and doing my best to get funded with small accounts at FTMO, Hola Prime, and The5ers.

My question is not really about passing the challenge, but what happens after that. I know some firms have different rules once you are funded, and there are conditions mentioned that only apply to the funded phase. Besides these rule differences, what other changes do you notice once you start trading a funded account?

As a beginner, how do you make the most of being funded and avoid common mistakes? Hoping to get some helpful advice.

One thing I’m trying to understand is what changes psychologically after you’re funded. Passing feels like a finish line, but I’m guessing the real game starts when payouts and consistency matter. For anyone who’s been funded, what surprised you most in the funded phase, rule changes, pressure, or execution?

Also curious if you changed risk per trade once funded or kept it identical to evaluation.

So it’s different for different firms, but generally it’s pretty straightforward once you’re funded. The biggest shift is psychological. You stop thinking about passing rules and start focusing on consistency and payouts. Many traders either overtrade or become too cautious. I found keeping the same risk per trade helps maintain discipline, at least in the beginning. Over time, small adjustments based on performance make more sense than sudden changes.

I’d say the real evaluation starts after you pass the challenge. Getting funded is one thing, but keeping payouts depends on how consistently you follow their rules under live conditions. It’s a bit different psychologically too, since you’re managing drawdown limits daily. Treat it like a long-term process rather than trying to maximize gains early.
