The Market Didn’t Teach Me How to Trade... These Mistakes Did..
When I started trading, I thought the biggest challenge would be finding the right strategy.
I was wrong.
The hardest part was controlling myself after entering a trade.
I’ve learned that knowing your setup is only half the battle. The real test comes when price moves against you, when you’ve just taken a loss, or when you’re tempted to enter because you’re afraid of missing the next move.
Some lessons that took me far too long to understand:
- A losing trade doesn't mean the setup was bad.- Revenge trading usually turns one mistake into five.- Missing a move is better than forcing one.- Taking profits according to your plan feels very different from taking them out of fear.Consistency comes from following a process, not trying to win every trade. The biggest change in my trading came when I stopped asking “How much can I make from this trade?” and started asking “Did I execute my plan correctly?”
Curious to hear from experienced traders: what was the one psychological lesson that changed your trading the most?
