CPI comes lower than expected → Gold should rise. Fed becomes dovish → Gold should rise. Geopolitical tension increases → Gold should rise. But sometimes... Gold still falls. Why? Because the market doesn't react to the news itself. It reacts to the difference between expectations and reality and, even more importantly, to what was already priced in. If traders expected something to be extremely bullish for Gold and positioned accordingly before the announcement, the actual news can arrive and still trigger selling. That's why you'll sometimes see: “Bullish News → Bearish Gold” It isn't necessarily a contradiction. It's the market saying: “We already knew.” The headline is public. The positioning is where the real story can be.
