Hi, everyone.

I am going to do forex trading using EURUSD and XAUUSD symbols.

Actually, i thought 1:100 is maximum in forex trading. But i saw most traders using 1:500 in this platform.

So i'd like to hear the opinion about forex experts.

Thank you

The maximum leverage depends on the broker you use. Some, even, go up to 1:2000

Leverage is a cap, not a target. On EURUSD/XAUUSD, size the trade off your stop and keep risk tiny (≈0.5–1%). Gold gets wild around news and spreads, so dial back exposure and skip the big prints. Demo it through a few releases before you scale.

I would suggest using minimal leverage at first, even if everyone else is using more. They may have a higher risk tolerance than you, and it’s not a good idea to copy that. Stick to your own plan, and you can always make adjustments later if things work in your favor.

I look at leverage like a tool, not a goal. You can have high leverage available and still keep your trades small. What matters more is having a simple plan and sticking to it, not copying what others do. Gold can move fast and shake you out when it gets wild, so I would start extra small there and scale later once it feels calm.

I would not stress too much about what number is popular. Leverage is just what your broker allows, not what you are supposed to use. You can have high leverage and still trade small and safe. The real problem is when people see 1:500 and start taking trades that are too big.

this is spot on. high leverage can be dangerous when combined with poor risk management. traders often overestimate their ability to handle drawdown, thinking they can recover quickly, but that's how accounts blow up. focus on position sizing and risk first—leverage is just a tool, not a strategy.

you're spot on about leverage being about personal choice, but the assumption that "high leverage = safe" is dangerous. i've seen too many traders blow accounts because they over-leveraged while chasing that thrill. it's all about risk management; if you're not managing your drawdown properly, it doesn't matter if you have 1:10 or 1:500. 🧠

You can even trade without leverage at all. Leverage just changes how fast you can blow up. If you’re new, focus on position size and risk per trade, not max leverage. Gold especially can move hard and punish 1:500 fast.

You can have 1:500 and still trade safely if you keep your trade size small. The danger is seeing that number and thinking you should use it. On gold especially, one fast move can punish you quick.
