South Korea Retail Sales Rise 1.4% In December

(RTTNews) - Retail sales in Japan were up a seasonally adjusted 1.4 percent on month in December, Statistics Korea said on Tuesday.

That beat expectations for an increase of 1.2 percent following the upwardly revised 1.7 percent decline in November (originally -1.8 percent).

On a yearly basis, retail sales fell 2.5 percent - roughly in line with expectations following the 2.1 percent contraction in the previous month.

Bank Of Korea Hikes Key Rate For Second Straight Time

The Bank of Korea raised its benchmark rate by a quarter-point for the second straight meeting on Thursday, to prevent broadening of inflationary pressures. The Monetary Policy Board of the Bank of Korea voted 6-1 to raise the base rate by 25 basis points to 3.00 percent. The bank had lifted the rate by a quarter-point at the previous meeting in July.
