I have been trading with FTMO for a long time and always considered them one of the best prop firms in the industry. Unfortunately, recent changes to their risk rules have made the platform far less trader-friendly.

The introduction and strict enforcement of the “1% per trade idea” rule, combined with aggregated risk interpretation and mandatory cooling-off periods, significantly limits professional trading strategies such as scaling, multi-entry setups, and structured risk deployment.

While these rules are presented as risk management, in practice they make it extremely difficult for skilled traders to execute realistic strategies or generate meaningful returns, especially on volatile instruments like XAUUSD.

Many traders are now forced to abandon proven systems or reduce performance to remain compliant. This feels less like trader protection and more like payout limitation.

FTMO used to stand out for flexibility and professionalism. Sadly, with these changes, it is no longer worth the cost or effort compared to other alternatives.

Although FTMO is one of the top firms, there are a few areas where it could improve:

-Daily loss limit is strict: The fact that floating losses are included in the daily drawdown makes it easy to violate the rule even without closing a losing trade.

-Low leverage: A 1:30 leverage can be restrictive, especially for scalping strategies or multi-pair setups during the challenge.

-Weekend trading limitations: It would be helpful to have more flexibility for certain instruments over the weekend.

-Longer verification on large payouts: In rare cases, when profit amounts are high (e.g., over $10–20k), the payout process may take slightly longer due to additional verification.

My overall experience with FTMO has been very positive. It’s a professional and trustworthy firm that provides serious traders with an opportunity to trade significant capital in a structured environment.

-Non-server execution slippage: FTMO confirms trades are modeled on live market execution, but many traders report “artificial” slippage in Challenge/Verification phasesslippage that doesn’t match what’s visible on your MT4/MT5 feed

Widened spreads during rollovers/low liquidity: Common issues include spreads ballooning—sometimes dozens of pips on majors or exotics—triggering SLs even when fees appear tight

-Inconsistent fills on SL vs TP: Numerous traders note that SLs get hit with negative slippage more often than TPs get filled favorably, especially around news events ()
Weekend and rollover spikes: Weekend or after-hours trading often sees spikes—e.g., BTCUSD spreads ~40pips on weekend, crypto pairs wide and unpredictable

Sensitivity for scalpers: Scalpers report “wild” fills, delayed executions, and data hiccups making low-latency strategies difficult.

• Avoid trading during low liquidity windows (rollover, weekends, news)
• Use limit orders and add buffer room to SLs to offset spread spikes  

Overall I appreciate FTMO’s transparency and support, but urge users to be mindful of these indirect pricing effects when execution isn’t sourced from your local server feed. If you rely on razor-thin spreads or rapid fills, you might encounter setup mismatches that cost more than expected.
