Something I’ve noticed over time is that many traders can actually be profitable for short periods, but very few remain consistent long term.

The difference usually isn’t strategy — it’s execution and discipline.

Small rule violations add up:

• Increasing lot size after losses

• Moving stop losses

• Overtrading during volatile sessions

• Trading during news without a clear plan

These behaviors slowly destroy performance even if the strategy itself has an edge.

One thing that helped me improve was creating strict rules around risk and when not to trade. Removing impulsive decisions made a bigger difference than changing strategies.

I’m curious how others see this —

Do you think consistency problems come more from psychology or from strategy weaknesses?

Mostly psychology, but it usually shows up as risk drift. You’re not changing the strategy, you’re changing the risk and rules when you’re bored, tilted, or feeling invincible. What helped me was fixing size and having clear no trade rules because it makes discipline way easier to actually follow.

Profitability can be random. Consistency cant.

You can have a green month just from market conditions lining up. But can you survive when conditions change? Thats where most people fall apart.

Risk management and discipline decide consistency. Not indicators.

Even broker conditions play a role long term. Tight spreads help more than people think. I usually check that stuff on TopAsiaFX before committing to one.
