GBP/JPY sits on thin ice

GBP/JPY continues to struggle for direction, casting doubt on the latest recovery attempt as downside pressures return.

Overview: GBP/JPY's recent rebound off its 9-month low of 207.45 is losing steam. Lacking the bullish firepower to reclaim 209 for a third straight day, the pair remains stuck in a range. Given the intact bearish SMA crosses and absence of trend reversal signals, sellers may remain firmly in command.

Momentum: The RSI is pointing back towards its 30 oversold threshold, while the stochastic oscillator prepares for a negative crossover, signaling persistent selling interest.

Bearish scenario: A close below 207.90 could squeeze prices toward the 206.30 area. Should the latter give way, the next stop lies around the 161.8% Fibonacci extension at 204.75.

Risk: A move above the former support area at 209.55 would invalidate the bearish bias.

GBP/JPY (4H): Bulls may be ready for another push higher

GBP/JPY has been trapped within a neutral structure since the sharp decline from 216.58 in late April. Although the pair failed to register a fresh higher high above the key resistance trendline at 215.32 last week, the bulls may get another chance after successfully defending support around the 50-EMA at 214.60 and the 23.6% Fibonacci.
