NAR said existing home sales dove by 2.0 percent to an annual rate of 3.98 million in August after tumbling by 1.7 percent to an annual rate of 4.06 million in July.

The Labor Department said its producer price index for final demand rose by 0.4 percent in August following a revised 0.1 percent uptick in July.

The Labor Department released a report on Thursday unexpectedly showing a slight dip in first-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits in the week ended September 5th. The report said initial jobless claims edged down to 206,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's revised level of 207,000.
