CLARITY Act Debate Puts Crypto in Focus Ahead of CPI and Oil Volatility
Markets enter the week facing several major catalysts that could influence global sentiment across crypto, commodities, and currencies. One of the biggest developments is the ongoing political debate surrounding the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, commonly known as the CLARITY Act. The legislation previously passed the US House of Representatives but has stalled in the Senate as disagreements emerge over stablecoin rewards and the role of traditional banks in the digital asset economy.
The debate has intensified after the Trump administration pushed for faster crypto regulation, arguing that delays could drive innovation outside the United States. At the same time, major banks have raised concerns that allowing stablecoins to offer interest-like rewards could trigger deposit migration from traditional banking. Industry estimates suggest as much as $500 billion in deposits could shift away from US banks by 2028 if stablecoin yields reach around 5%, highlighting the scale of the potential liquidity shift.
Beyond regulatory developments, macroeconomic data will also shape market expectations. The US CPI inflation report due March 11 is forecast at 2.5% year on year, slightly higher than the previous 2.4% reading, and could influence expectations for Federal Reserve interest rate policy. A stronger inflation print may reinforce US dollar strength and delay expectations for rate cuts.
Key technical levels remain critical across major markets. Gold is consolidating above the $4,996 support zone, while Bitcoin is defending the $62,502 level after failing to hold above $70,969. Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index is testing resistance near 99.631, with a potential move toward 100.321 if bullish momentum continues.
