NFP Release and Nasdaq 100 Close to All-Time High — Make or Break?
The Nasdaq 100 (US100) is approaching the upcoming U.S. Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) release while trading close to its all-time highs around the 31,000 area.
The key question for traders is whether the NFP report can provide another catalyst for the index to extend its gains, or whether it could trigger a correction ahead of the upcoming U.S. earnings season.
NFP — What Could It Mean for Nasdaq?
From the perspective of Nasdaq bulls, an exceptionally strong NFP number may not necessarily be positive.
A significantly stronger-than-expected labour market report could increase expectations that the Federal Reserve may need to maintain tighter monetary conditions or consider further interest-rate increases. Higher rate expectations can create additional pressure on growth and technology stocks.
At the same time, an extremely weak NFP reading could also raise concerns, particularly if investors interpret it as an early indication of a more significant cooling of the U.S. economy.
Therefore, both extreme scenarios could potentially create challenges for Nasdaq bulls.
A report broadly in line with market expectations could potentially represent a more comfortable scenario for equity markets, as it may reduce the risk of an immediate reassessment of either monetary policy expectations or the economic outlook.
With the Nasdaq 100 already trading close to record levels, market reaction to the NFP release could be particularly important in determining the next short-term direction.
Technical Levels to Watch
Nasdaq 100 (US100)
On the upside, the first important resistance area is around 31,100–31,200.
A sustained move above this zone could bring 31,500–31,600 into focus, followed potentially by the 31,900 area.
On the downside, the first notable support is around 30,500, followed by 30,300.
The psychologically important 30,000 area remains the key support below these levels. A clear break below this zone could indicate a more meaningful change in short-term market sentiment.
With NFP followed by the upcoming earnings season, volatility in the Nasdaq 100 may remain elevated as investors reassess both the U.S. economic outlook and corporate growth expectations.
Key levels:
- Resistance: 31,100–31,200, then 31,500–31,600, then 31,900
- Support: 30,500, then 30,300
- Critical floor: 30,000
