GOLD Below $3,999 or Above $4,501? What Could the Coming Week Bring?

Gold holds below recent highs as inflation, geopolitics and U.S. midterm risk fail to spark a rally ahead of next week's FOMC decision. The $3,969-$4,069 zone is the key battleground: a break lower opens $3,860-$3,910, while a close above $4,200 would revive the bullish case toward $4,500.

Gold Struggles to Shine Despite Global Uncertainty - Is a Bigger Correction Ahead?

Gold continues to puzzle traders and investors as the precious metal shows little indication of extending its previous bullish momentum. Unlike the same period last year, when gold demonstrated remarkable strength, the current market environment appears considerably less supportive of further gains.

What makes the situation particularly interesting is that many of the traditional factors supporting gold prices remain firmly in place.

Inflation continues to be elevated, geopolitical uncertainty shows few signs of disappearing, and the approaching U.S. midterm elections add another layer of potential market volatility.

Meanwhile, recent political developments in France and broader economic and geopolitical uncertainty have failed to generate meaningful buying interest in the precious metal.

The question is becoming increasingly relevant: if gold cannot rally amid so much uncertainty, what exactly will push it higher?

An Old Market Saying: If an Asset Cannot Rise on Good News, It May Be Ready to Fall

There is an old saying among experienced traders: if an asset fails to rise on positive news, it may be preparing to move in the opposite direction.

Of course, market folklore is not a reliable forecasting tool, and financial markets frequently challenge conventional wisdom.

Nevertheless, gold's apparent inability to benefit from traditionally supportive developments raises questions about the strength of underlying demand.

Is the market simply consolidating before another bullish extension, or are we witnessing the early stages of a more significant correction?

The coming trading sessions may provide important clues.

FOMC Meeting Ahead - Will Gold Hold the $4,000 Level?

Next week's Federal Reserve meeting represents a major potential catalyst for gold prices.

Market participants will closely monitor the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, accompanying statement, and signals regarding the future direction of interest rates.

A more hawkish-than-expected message could strengthen the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields, potentially increasing pressure on gold. Conversely, a more dovish tone could revive buying interest and encourage another attempt at recovering recent losses.

However, considerable uncertainty remains regarding the price level at which gold will enter the FOMC meeting.

At present, the $4,000 area appears increasingly important as a potential battleground between bulls and bears. This level combines psychological significance with potential options-related positioning and technical buying interest.

Consequently, volatility around $4,000 could become particularly aggressive, with sharp intraday movements and false breakouts possible in both directions.

GOLD (XAU/USD) - Key Technical Levels to Watch

Bearish Scenario: Will $4,000 Hold?

Major support and pivot zone: 3,969-4,069

This broad technical area represents a potentially decisive battleground for the market. Strong buying interest may emerge within this range, although aggressive selling pressure and significant intraday price spikes cannot be excluded.

The psychological $4,000 level remains particularly important. A sustained break below $3,969 could indicate that sellers are gaining control and potentially accelerate the downside momentum.

Next downside target: 3,860-3,910

If the main support zone fails, the market could move relatively quickly toward the 3,860-3,910 area, particularly if the decline is accompanied by rising Treasury yields, a stronger U.S. dollar, or a more hawkish Federal Reserve. Such a development could significantly weaken the near-term technical outlook.

Bullish Scenario: What Would Bring Buyers Back?

Immediate resistance: 4,100-4,150

This area currently represents a substantial technical obstacle for gold bulls. Attempts to recover may encounter renewed selling pressure within this range. A temporary move above $4,100 would not necessarily confirm a sustainable bullish reversal.

Key bullish confirmation level: $4,200

A convincing daily close above $4,200 could provide a stronger signal that bullish momentum is returning. Such a development could encourage additional buyers to enter the market and potentially open the way toward higher resistance levels.

Extended bullish scenario: 4,500-4,501

A recovery toward $4,500 would require a much more substantial improvement in market sentiment and a sustained bullish trend. For now, this should be considered an extended upside scenario rather than an immediate technical target.

Market Outlook: Is Gold Preparing for Its Next Major Move?

The coming week could prove particularly important for gold's short- and medium-term direction.

Despite persistent inflation concerns, geopolitical tensions, and political uncertainty, the precious metal has so far failed to demonstrate the bullish momentum that many market participants might have expected. This divergence deserves attention.

From a technical perspective, the 3,969-4,069 support zone remains the central area to monitor, with $4,000 serving as a particularly important psychological reference point. A sustained breakdown could expose the 3,860-3,910 region, while a recovery above $4,200 would improve the bullish technical picture.

Until either scenario develops, traders should remain prepared for elevated volatility, sudden reversals, and potentially aggressive price movements around the FOMC meeting.

The central question remains: will $4,000 become the foundation for another golden recovery - or the starting point of a deeper correction? The market may deliver its answer sooner than many expect.
