US stock futures fell early Tuesday as rising Treasury yields continued to pressure equities. Dow futures declined more than 0.2%, S&P 500 futures 0.2% and Nasdaq-100 futures 0.4%, following a previous-session sell-off that saw the Dow Jones lose more than 300 points and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq fall around 0.8% and 0.9%.

The main concern remains persistent inflation and the risk of further Fed rate hikes, with the 10-year Treasury yield above 5.2% and the 30-year yield above 5.5%. The sharp rise in yields suggests bond markets are pricing a more hawkish interest-rate outlook than the Fed’s latest projections, with investors increasingly expecting multiple additional rate hikes. Higher yields are also putting pressure on equities and other interest-rate-sensitive assets.

Investors will watch US consumer confidence and JOLTS jobs data for clues on the economy and interest-rate outlook.

In Australia’s, the central bank raised its policy rate by 25 basis points to 4.6%, the highest level in 15 years, marking its fourth hike this year as inflation remains persistent. The central bank warned that further rate increases remain possible if needed to bring inflation under control, signaling a continued hawkish stance.

Gold staged a modest recovery toward $4,150 on Tuesday after falling near $4,100, but remains under pressure from a strong US dollar, elevated Treasury yields and a hawkish Federal Reserve outlook. The Fed’s recent 25-basis-point hike and expectations of another increase in October, currently priced at around 70%, are limiting upside in the non-yielding metal.

Persistent inflation risks, particularly from higher energy prices linked to the Middle East conflict, continue to support the dollar and yields, keeping gold vulnerable to further downside.
