US100 – The Biggest IPO in History Lands on the Nasdaq Today

The biggest IPO in history lands today, and it could shake the Nasdaq 100. SpaceX's $1.75 trillion valuation and tiny float mean volatility ahead. Index funds will be forced buyers, but only 4% of shares are available to trade. Will forced buying push the index higher, or will the IPO mark a cycle top?

SpaceX goes public today: $135 per share, $75 billion raised, and $1.75 trillion valuation. It's the largest IPO in history, surpassing Saudi Aramco's 2019 record. For index traders, the practical way to track this event is through the Nasdaq 100 index (US100), because SpaceX is about to join it.

Nasdaq loosened its rules so large new listings can join the Nasdaq-100 faster, and MSCI starts adding the stock to its own indexes tomorrow. Funds that track these indexes will be forced to buy.

Here's the detail that matters: only about 4% of SpaceX shares are available for trading. That's called a small float. When demand is huge and supply is tiny, the price can swing hard in both directions, and a company this size can pull the whole index with it.

The bigger picture calls for caution. The Nasdaq trades near record highs, the Fed meets next week, and history shows that giant, euphoric IPOs often arrive late in a market cycle. Enjoy the show, but manage your risk.

US100 key levels:

  • Resistance: 30,000, then 30,200
  • Support: 29,000, then 28,100
